37 Workshops on Offer for Girls and Boys.

When it comes to choosing their future career path, boys and girls often follow societal traditions – boys typically do not choose social or teaching careers, while girls are still very much underrepresented in technical vocations.

The nationwide Girls’ Day and Boys’ Day encourages school pupils to choose degree programs and career paths that are somewhat atypical for their gender. RWTH and Uniklinik RWTH Aachen will once again be involved in this program on Thursday, March 28, 2019 – the 18th time the University is participating. 37 workshops with a total of 413 spaces will be on offer for pupils.

In the welcome speech for the event, Christine Steffens of RWTH’s Equal Opportunities Office will draw attention to schemes such as Schüleruni and Girls-go-MINT. In addition, Miriam Nowak from the University’s Berufsausbildungszentrum (vocational training center) will highlight the numerous training opportunities available at RWTH. The different workshops will then begin – girls can find out how 3-D photography works, in what ways IT is involved in design, or even discover Electronics you can Touch. Boys on the other hand can learn how carers are increasingly involved in hospital emergency wards, take a look behind the scenes at the University library, or even get a certificate in babysitting.
