Description

Publishing your PhD thesis is a requirement at RWTH Aachen University. The number of copies you need to submit is determined by the doctoral degree regulations and depends on the form of publication required. You can publish your PhD thesis online or in printed form.
A PhD thesis is the complex product of a long research process. In most disciplines, the research data produced, processed or reused during this process has a significant role to play in the quality and traceability of scholarly work. In line with good academic practice, it is obligatory to preserve research data for ten years. Openness and accessibility are therefore important principles in scholarly work.

Objective

By the end of the session, participants:

  • will have become more familiar with the legal framework in connection with scholarly publishing, which they will be able to take into account when publishing their own PhD

  • will have received all the necessary information concerning online publication on the RWTH Publications server within the context of the dissertation procedure

  • will have gained an insight into the functions of the publications database

  • will be aware that they need to publish or archive their research data in order to complete their doctoral studies and will be able to put this into practice accordingly.
